OOC Information Name: Joey Are you over 18?: Yes Contact: Discord - JOJO#1374, Plurk - Characters: Shirou Fubuki ( ![]() IC Information Character: Kurama Age: Officially, Kurama's age is difficult to pinpoint. As a demon, he was reported to be anywhere between 1000 and 3000 years old but, at his current canon point and as a demon reborn into the body of a human, he appears to be physically 15 or 16 yeas old at the most. Canon: Yu Yu Hakusho Canon Point: Chapter Black Saga, Volume 15, Chapter 138. Riddled with guilt and anger after having been forced to manipulate Amanuma into his own death, Kurama reveals Gourmet's true identity as Elder Toguro and mercilessly sentences him to an eternity of suffering at the hands of the Sinning Tree's illusions. History: Kurama's history can be found here. Personality: Lending his unsurpassed intelligence, deductive reasoning, and innovative strategies to his comrades, Kurama has proven time and again that he is an invaluable asset to the other protagonists of the series. There are, however, two sides to Kurama. While he often acts the part of the levelheaded shepherd who steers their flock, there also rests the soul of a demon lurking beneath his placid exterior. On the surface, Kurama can appear completely unassuming, a characteristic that is only amplified by his gentle appearance. Successfully masquerading as a natural born human for fourteen years, it wasn't until he stole one of the Reikai's sacred artifacts that he outed himself as a demon thief, and even then his family and his peers at school remained none the wiser to his true self. His youthful countenance also manifests in other ways, of course. Kurama is someone who takes great pleasure in teasing his fellow teammates and friends, who demonstrates such measured control of himself that he can even do so with a straight face. His sense of humor is blunt and unequivocally forthright, pulling no punches, and he approaches fighting in a similar way. Whether in his human form and stooping to making silly faces to break his enemy's concentration, or as Youko and mocking his opponents by playfully throw their words back at them, Kurama proves that appearances are deceiving. Unfortunately, Kurama also possesses something of a self-depreciating nature, one that he normally hides quite well, but rears its head at the most inconvenient times. He was willing to sacrifice his own life to see his mother well again, believing that she would be much happier without him in her life. Yusuke prevented this from happening, but then Kurama thanked him by waiving his well-being and taking a sword through the stomach for him, anyway. Of course, Kurama is a fiercely enduring individual and has survived far worse afflictions throughout his life. In fact, above all else excepting his intelligence, his endurance may be his most defining trait. From surviving lethal wounds dealt to his demon fox form and making certain he was reborn again into the body of a human, to withstanding the brutal onslaught of his enemies attacks such as bombs and even savage beatings, he always manages to cling to life. One might argue that his loyalty to those who have done so much to help him is the very thing that keeps both of his feet out of the grave. From the way that his mother saved him from falling upon broken glass as a boy, to Yusuke sharing the sacrifice of his life to keep Kurama from giving up all of his own, and even the way that he and his friends supported one another in the many trials they faced together, he has surrounded himself with people he feels indebted to โ people for whom he must live on. Not that Kurama was always so protective, of course. Once, a long time ago, he'd been willing to abandon those who were a detriment to his own ambitions, and was even willing to go as far as killing them. He never anticipated growing fond of his human mother, who unintentionally taught him all about human empathy, but it was because of her that he became so unwavering and protective when his loved ones were threatened. He takes great offense to anyone who would hold someone hostage, such as when Roto wanted Kurama to throw their fight or risk having his mother harmed, but he did not falter then. Instead, Kurama found a way to outsmart his opponent, and by utilizing great patience and stalling, he not only defeated his enemy, but permanently put him down for daring to threaten what's his. In fact, many of the ways in which Kurama approaches not only everyday situations, but also battle, boasts a level of cunning that far surpasses that of his friends or his adversaries. His strategies are avantegarde, much like his way of thinking: always two-to-three steps ahead of everyone else. And while he will willingly go to most lengths to ensure his victory in a fight, utilizing various deadly plants, potions concocted by others that will awaken his demon fox form, and even his own blood, he remains someone who fights honorably. After hearing Ura Urashima's story, Kurama was willing to go easy on him and spare his life during their match, but that was before he had discovered he'd been lied to. He can be sympathetic to the plights of others, and often his opponents try to manipulate him this way, but failure to disguise such underhandedness and betrayal does not leave room for forgiveness in Kurama's eyes. He finds such people unsightly and pitiful, and even in the wake of their death, whether or not at his own hands, he feels very little for them. It is in that way he can be seen as very cruel and ruthless, but more frightening is Kurama's ability to completely slow down his heartbeat and erase his emotions from his expression altogether. Even when wracked with guilt at having Amanuma, a young boy, into his own death, Kurama managed to conceal his emotions from his friends and convince them that he was completely fine. However, Kurama does not adopt such a countenance unless he has been backed into a corner or feels his composure is hanging on by a thread. In the case with Amanuma, it was the latter... The result of which showcased one of the most vindictive acts ever committed by Kurama in his many, many years of living. Not only had his hand been forced with Amanuma's death, but Elder Toguro chose to mock the boy afterwards, an act Kurama could not forgive. Already on the verge of exploding from rage, he finished Toguro off with one quick strike of his rose whip...but the real killer was the seed that he planted within his adversary as he had done so. For, not only is Kurama someone who is good at hiding his emotions, but he is quite masterful at hiding his intentions, too. As for Toguro, he was sentenced to suffer the worst possible fate imaginable for all eternity: due to his healing capabilities, the vampiric Sinning Tree would cause him to forever repeat his worst nightmares. Because certain evils do not deserve an end as peaceful as death. Ultimately, Kurama has learned to balance what it means to be both Shuichi Minamino and Kurama the Youko. Possessing the heart of a human that was instilled with warmth by his human mother, and the soul of a demon that was hardened by countless years of brutal conditioning, he has developed into a sort of savage garden: beautiful and nurturing to those who show the proper respect, and treacherous to those who would cross him. Etc: Depending upon the form he is using at the time and who is addressing him, Kurama is a character whose different names hold very specific function and meaning. While "Kurama" is in fact his true name, as well as the name that is most commonly used by him or anyone else that knows his true identity, it is also a name that is sometimes paired with "Youko" which is generally used as a descriptor rather than its own name. Together, they translate roughly into, "Kurama the Demon Fox." Of course, either can still be used on its own, but any Youko variation strictly refers to his silver-haired fox demon form. As a human, Kurama is also known to his family and peers at school as "Shuichi Minamino." Among all of these monikers, Shuichi is the most like an alias, although the demon half of Kurama fused long ago with the human spirit of Shuichi and the two are now one and the same.
